{"id":798173,"date":"2026-10-10T14:40:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-10T14:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/798173\/"},"modified":"2026-10-10T14:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-10T14:40:09","slug":"cornish-art-collection-returns-home-for-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/798173\/","title":{"rendered":"Cornish art collection returns home for exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Paintings depicting life in Cornwall&#8217;s fishing and rural communities more than a century ago have gone on display.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The exhibition brings together 40 works from the acclaimed Bowerman Collection of Newlyn School art, a movement of artists who settled in west Cornwall in the late 19th Century.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The works have returned to Cornwall before embarking on a national tour and will be displayed at the Penlee House Gallery and Museum in Penzance until January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Curator Alison Bevan said the work &#8220;captures the real lives and characters of this remote fishing community&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Bevan said the exhibition also highlighted artists who formed what she described as a second flowering of the colony at the turn of the 20th Century.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;With their more vibrant palette but equal passion for painting from life, this second generation re-energised Newlyn as a vibrant artistic hub, revelling in West Cornwall&#8217;s sparkling light,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The exhibition runs until 9 January before the collection begins a two-year tour of venues across England.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Paintings depicting life in Cornwall&#8217;s fishing and rural communities more than a century ago have gone on display.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":798174,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[31],"tags":[6225,6485,6486,1120,96,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-798173","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-arts-and-design","tag-arts","tag-arts-and-design","tag-artsanddesign","tag-design","tag-entertainment","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/798173","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=798173"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/798173\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/798174"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=798173"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=798173"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=798173"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
