The Scottish Government is urging the public to \u201cask for help\u201d if they need it as World Mental Health Day is marked.<\/p>\n

Minister for mental wellbeing Maree Todd said the annual day serves as a reminder that \u201cit\u2019s OK to ask for help\u201d.<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cWhether you\u2019re dealing with everyday stress, a difficult period in your life, or something more serious, reaching out to a friend, family member or professional service is a sign of strength, not weakness. Too many of us still feel we have to cope alone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Government is committed to ensuring that people can access support as early as possible and receive the help that is right for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Scottish Government set out its new mental health delivery plan in September, including actions to improve mental health support and services across Scotland over the next three years.<\/p>\n

Ms Todd encouraged people to reach out to services available across Scotland that could provide support.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cSo, if you\u2019re struggling, please talk to someone. That might be a GP, a trusted friend or one of the many excellent community-based support services available across Scotland.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese organisations do incredible work supporting people every single day. Anyone in need of support can also call 111, contact Breathing Space, or get advice online through Mind to Mind.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo matter what you are facing, support is available. Reaching out can be difficult, but it can also be the first step towards feeling better. My message today is simple: you do not have to face things alone.\u201d<\/p>\n
