{"id":798563,"date":"2026-10-10T23:20:11","date_gmt":"2026-10-10T23:20:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/798563\/"},"modified":"2026-10-10T23:20:11","modified_gmt":"2026-10-10T23:20:11","slug":"robert-garcia-sums-up-devin-haneys-chances-of-being-the-first-to-beat-shakur-stevenson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/798563\/","title":{"rendered":"Robert Garcia sums up Devin Haney&#8217;s chances of being the first to beat Shakur Stevenson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Top trainer Robert Garcia believes <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/devin-haney\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Devin Haney<\/a> is the \u201cbiggest threat\u201d to <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/shakur-stevenson\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shakur Stevenson<\/a> as their monumental showdown seemingly inches closer towards an announcement.<\/p>\n<p>It was initially reported that Stevenson, coming off <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skysports.com\/boxing\/news\/13501761\/shakur-stevenson-american-boxer-dominates-teofimo-lopez-to-become-four-weight-world-champion-before-calling-out-conor-benn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">his points victory over Teofimo Lopez in January<\/a>, would be facing Manny Pacquiao on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, this was met with heavy criticism by the boxing fraternity, yet now it would appear that neither man will feature at Cardiff\u2019s Principality Stadium on December 11.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Stevenson became increasingly linked to a unification match with Gary Antuanne Russell, with both champions putting their respective WBO and WBA super-lightweight titles on the line.<\/p>\n<p>Following several weeks of negotiations, however, it would now seem that the four-division world champion is more likely to face Haney, who has not fought since dethroning Brian Norman Jr for the WBO welterweight title last November.<\/p>\n<p>According to the 27-year-old\u2019s father and trainer, Bill Haney, <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/details-for-haney-vs-stevenson-fight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the pair have agreed to a catchweight of 145lbs<\/a> \u2013 with no rehydration clause \u2013 and will collide in Atlanta on November 28.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VL5tCW_8CRM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ProBox TV<\/a>, coach Garcia said both unbeaten Americans have a chance of winning but admitted to favouring the size advantage of Haney.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Devin is the biggest threat to Shakur. I think that Devin can actually beat Shakur, because of his body, his reach. He\u2019s fast; he also boxes very well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he is the person that can beat Shakur. Shakur can also do the same \u2013 beat Haney.
