A group of mainly non-Jewish activists challenging British antisemitism<\/a> by standing with Israel launched a new campaign next to the Winston Churchill statue in Parliament Square on Saturday, called \u201cSome people are Zionist! Get over it!\u201d<\/p>\n

Mark Birbeck, founder and director of Our Fight, told The Jerusalem Post that the group launched the campaign in response to the Green Party conference\u2019s vote on October 4, by 1,022 votes to 813, to pass a motion declaring \u201cZionism is racism.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the Parliament Square launch event on Saturday, activists wore branded T-shirts displaying the campaign slogan and held signs reading \u201cPROUD ZIO,\u201d utilizing a term that originated as a derogatory slur for Zionists<\/a>. They also carried Israeli and British flags.<\/p>\n

Explaining the motivation behind the initiative, Our Fight activist Kurpa Patel stated to GB News, \u201cWe\u2019re here to stand as proud Zionists, after the Green Party adopted their motion saying \u2018Zionism is racism.\u2019 We\u2019re saying: some people are Zionist. Get over it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Birbeck also spoke with GB News, stating, \u201cThere are many people who support the right of Israel to exist<\/a>, and that\u2019s all Zionism is: the right of Jews to have a homeland. In response to the hysteria we\u2019ve been seeing around the country for the last year or two, anti-Israel hysteria, we\u2019re saying get over it. Israel\u2019s not going anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Birbeck told the Post that Our Fight plans to repeat the photo opportunity next month. \u201cWe\u2019ll be asking people to come and show their support for Israel next to Churchill\u2019s statue again,\u201d Birbeck said.<\/p>\n

Birbeck said that this launch is part of their \u201cbroader mensch campaign\u201d and that they \u201care organizing a conference on January 17 called \u2018Be a #MENSCH,\u2019\u201d the campaign aims to encourage non-Jewish allies in the UK to show public, visible solidarity with the Jewish community amid rising antisemitism<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll be bringing together activists, academics, and writers to discuss the crisis of antisemitism, and broader issues relating to the nation and community,\u201d Birbeck told the Post.<\/p>\n

During the Green Party\u2019s conference, Birbeck stood facing the audience at the front of the room wearing a T-shirt inscribed with the campaign slogan. Our Fight shared a video on social media showing conference organizers approaching Birbeck.<\/p>\n
