Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Russia has attacked its energy sites despite a ceasefire deal announced earlier in the day by US President Trump aimed at sparing fuel infrastructure.<\/p>\n
The announcement came after Trump said the two countries had agreed to an \u201cenergy ceasefire\u201d, after mutual attacks on energy infrastructure piled pressure on global energy prices.<\/p>\n

\u201cEffective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed,\u201d Trump wrote on social media. \u201cDo not break it! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zelenskyy initially denied any knowledge of the agreement and said it was \u201cnews to him,\u201d according to Axios.<\/p>\n
\u201cUkrainian skies have been infested with Russian \u2018shaheds\u2019 all day today,\u201d he wrote on X, adding that Kyiv would back such a truce but that Moscow must also comply.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere have been glide bomb strikes and strikes on our energy infrastructure too. A power plant in Kharkiv was attacked this evening,\u201d he added.\u201d<\/p>\n
There was no immediate announcement by the Kremlin addressing the claim.<\/p>\n
Zelenskyy previously said on Sunday he would organise elections if Russian President Vladimir Putin agrees to a 60-day full ceasefire.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Trump slammed<\/a> the Ukrainian president for attacking<\/a> Russian oil refineries, the day after the US temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian fuel that were originally imposed to sap Moscow\u2019s war effort in Ukraine.<\/p>\n \u201cHe better damn well stop,\u201d Trump told reporters at the White House. \u201cI think it\u2019s time for Ukraine to get a new president,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Earlier on Saturday, Zelenskyy said Trump\u2019s announcement of the diesel deal<\/a> with Putin had emboldened Moscow. Kyiv instead urged Washington to pressure Moscow for serious negotiations to end the four-and-a-half-year war.<\/p>\n \u201cToday, Russia said thank you for the lifting of sanctions on diesel exports by dropping five glide bombs on residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia,\u201d Zelenskyy said.<\/p>\n \u201cLast night provided yet more confirmation that Russia perceives any easing of pressure as a signal that it can supposedly keep fighting, that it can supposedly keep dropping bombs on cities. Different signals are needed.\u201d<\/p>\n The southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia has been a regular<\/a> target of Russian bombardment<\/a>, with attacks intensifying in the past few months.<\/p>\n On Saturday, a six-year-old girl was among those killed in Zaporizhzhia when one attack reduced part of an apartment block to rubble. Her grandfather, Anatoliy Chumniy, stood sobbing over her body, laid on the ground in a white bag, after rescuers pulled her from the wreckage.<\/p>\n In response to Trump\u2019s suggestion of a new leader, Zelenskyy said, \u201cit\u2019s up to Ukrainians\u201d to choose their leader and noted that Putin would also like to change who is leading Ukraine.<\/p>\n Earlier on Sunday, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries if Moscow ceases its own attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had pushed for a 60-day full ceasefire.
