Matteo Jorgenson crosses the line at Il Lombardia 2026<\/p>\n

Jorgenson move was part of the plan<\/p>\n

Jorgenson\u2019s attack on the Ghisallo was not improvised. Louis Barre helped launch the American from the reduced peloton, with Brandon McNulty, Quinn Simmons and Christian Scaroni joining him as the race began to split.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur plan was to try something with Matteo,\u201d Reef explained. \u201cLouis gave him a good lead-out, but in the end, we were unable to make the difference.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jorgenson had already pointed to the same tactical thinking immediately after the finish<\/a>. \u201cWe tried some fun tactics and we weren\u2019t favourites for the race because it\u2019s just such a hard and honest race,\u201d he told Cycling Pro Net. \u201cSo we had to go long.\u201d<\/p>\n

The move was eventually brought back before the first passage of San Fermo della Battaglia, with Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe helping to control the race for Remco Evenepoel. Visma still had Piganzoli and Tulett in the group, but Civiglio exposed the gap to the strongest riders.<\/p>\n

Seixas raised the pace, Tom Pidcock and Giulio Ciccone were among the last able to stay close, and the rest of the contenders were quickly spread across the climb. \u201cThe finale was very honest,\u201d Reef said. \u201cIt quickly became clear on the Civiglio that Ben and Davide did not have the legs to fight for the victory.\u201d<\/p>\n

Piganzoli eventually finished 16th and Tulett 18th, while Seixas rode on to victory ahead of Enric Mas and Ciccone.<\/p>\n

Piganzoli ends debut Visma season<\/p>\n

Reef still took positives from the wider Italian campaign despite Lombardia ending without a top-10 finish. \u201cI look back on the past week with a positive feeling, as we have shown ourselves to be a strong team,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Piganzoli was Visma\u2019s first rider home in Como and brought his first season with the team to a close after a year in which he had clearly moved forward. \u201cI look back on the season with a very positive feeling,\u201d said Piganzoli. \u201cI have made huge strides, and the collaboration with all the riders and staff members has been very good. I am looking forward to continuing to develop myself next season.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Giro dell\u2019Emilia winner had arrived in Lombardia as one of Visma\u2019s stronger late-season options, but the team never found a way back into the fight once Seixas took over on Civiglio.<\/p>\n
