\n Shaun, from Great Yarmouth, is sharing his story to mark World Mental Health Day, which takes place on 10 October.\n<\/p>\n
\n He has dealt with physical health problems, caring responsibilities, bereavement, and mental health struggles over the years.\n<\/p>\n
\n Shaun said: “Even small acts of kindness can make a big difference to someone’s confidence and wellbeing.”\n<\/p>\n
\n With the support he received, Shaun was able to begin his recovery journey and is now helping to shape mental health services through the Great Yarmouth and Waveney Service User and Carer Council.\n<\/p>\n
\n He said: “People with lived experience bring valuable insights into what works well and where services can improve.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The council allows people who have used mental health services or cared for someone who has to share feedback and help guide future improvements.\n<\/p>\n
\n Shaun believes involving people from the outset helps create services that better meet the needs of local communities.\n<\/p>\n

\n Cath Byford, chief patient experience officer and deputy chief executive at Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT), said: “World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to recognise not only the importance of mental health and wellbeing, but also the value of listening to the people who use our services and those who care for them.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Shaun’s story demonstrates the powerful contribution that people with lived experience can make in shaping services.”\n<\/p>\n
\n She said their insights are essential in creating compassionate, effective care that meets the needs of the community.\n<\/p>\n
\n Shaun would like to see more opportunities for people with lived experience to be involved in service development and decision-making.\n<\/p>\n
