{"id":800321,"date":"2026-10-12T16:08:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-12T16:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/800321\/"},"modified":"2026-10-12T16:08:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-12T16:08:09","slug":"bbc-blurs-bethany-antonia-trans-t-shirt-on-strictly-come-dancing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/800321\/","title":{"rendered":"BBC Blurs Bethany Antonia Trans T-Shirt On &#8216;Strictly Come Dancing&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/bbc\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bbc\" data-tag=\"bbc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC<\/a> has confirmed that it blurred out a transgender rights slogan on the T-shirt of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/bethany-antonia\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bethany-antonia\" data-tag=\"bethany-antonia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bethany Antonia<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/house-of-the-dragon\/\" id=\"auto-tag_house-of-the-dragon\" data-tag=\"house-of-the-dragon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">House of the Dragon<\/a> actress competing in <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/strictly-come-dancing\/\" id=\"auto-tag_strictly-come-dancing\" data-tag=\"strictly-come-dancing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Strictly Come Dancing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAntonia, who plays Lady Baela Targaryen in HBO\u2019s Game of Thrones spin-off series, rehearsed for the British version of Dancing With the Stars in a white shirt that read: \u201cProtect the Dolls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe BBC posted a video of the Strictly training session on social media last week, with the slogan visible. Antonia\u2019s T-shirt was later blurred for the TV broadcast on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn a statement, the BBC said: \u201cAs is standard practice on any entertainment show on the BBC and in line with our editorial guidelines, appropriate steps are taken to reduce the inclusion of any overt branding or slogans that may be present, regardless of the wording or statement in question.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe \u201cProtect the Dolls\u201d T-shirt was designed by Conner Ives, who showcased it during London Fashion Week in 2025. \u201cDolls\u201d is how the LGBTQIA+ community refers to trans women. The shirt has since been worn by the likes of Pedro Pascal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAntonia has not commented on the BBC\u2019s decision to remove the slogan. She is partnered with professional dancer Nancy Xu and continues to participate in the competition. Gavin &amp; Stacey actress Melanie Walters was eliminated over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAntonia has previously worked with Russell T Davies, appearing alongside Helena Bonham Carter in Nolly.
