Sunflower Bean<\/a>\u2018s Julia Cumming has stepped in to play bass for Wolf Alice<\/a> as they support Olivia Rodrigo<\/a> on her huge \u2018Unraveled Tour\u2019. Check out footage of the shows below.<\/p>\n

The support slot comes as Rodrigo recently kicked off her huge 65-date \u2018Unraveled\u2019 tour<\/a> dates in celebration of \u2018You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love\u2019<\/a> \u2013 her third record and the highly-anticipated follow-up to her critically acclaimed 2021 debut album \u2018Sour\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dates started with two back-to-back nights in Connecticut<\/a> at the end of last month, and has so far seen the \u2018Deja Vu\u2019 singer perform in Pennsylvania, Washington DC and North Carolina, with support coming from Wolf Alice.<\/p>\n

For the majority of the support slots, Wolf Alice bassist Theo Ellis is not joining his bandmates, and instead taking some time away from the touring schedule as he and his partner are having a baby. Sunflower Bean\u2019s Julia Cumming has stepped in to temporarily take his place.<\/p>\n

She announced that she would be filling in for Ellis last week, sharing a post of her and Wolf Alice frontwoman Ellie Rowsell riding scooters together with a caption saying that she was \u201cso excited\u201d to be joining the band for \u201cthe month of October\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheo and his family are going through some big personal life changes and I couldn\u2019t be more honoured to be asked to fill in,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

She then went on to share another video on Instagram, saying that \u2018White Horses\u201d is one of her favourite songs on Wolf Alice\u2019s latest album \u2018The Clearing<\/a>\u2019 and showing her \u201cgetting ready to play bass\u201d on the tour.<\/p>\n

After the first night with the band in Charlotte, North Carolina, Cumming then went on to share a video of her on stage with the band playing \u2018Play The Greatest Hits\u2019 and described it in the caption as \u201cquickly becoming one of my favourite moments in the set\u201d. She then tagged Ellis in the post and praised him as \u201cone of the most fun bass players to watch and listen to in rock\u201d, before concluding: \u201cMy life is cool\u201d.<\/p>\n

Wolf Alice\u2019s support dates with Olivia Rodrigo continue tonight (Monday October 12) in Chicago, before more dates in Boston, Montreal, Toronto and Columbus throughout the remainder of the month. Check out footage from the shows below.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The decision to enlist Cumming follows on from the singer joining forces with the alt-rock veterans on their \u2018The Clearing: B Sides\u2019 album<\/a> \u2013 working with them on a cover of The Roches\u2019 \u2018Hammond Song\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The B-sides album also featured the delicate, piano-led \u2018Gospel Oak\u2019<\/a> and the folksy \u2018Hit The Sky\u2019<\/a>, and came shortly after Ellie Rowsell and co. played a huge homecoming concert at London\u2019s Finsbury Park \u2013 which NME was at and awarded five stars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs they properly finish things off with the blistering \u2018Giant Peach\u2019, it\u2019s hard not to feel thankful that Wolf Alice followed their own advice,\u201d the review read. \u201cThey\u2019ve been brilliant since the beginning, but over the years, have developed into one of the very best around.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018The Clearing\u2019 marked Wolf Alice\u2019s second Number One album and earned them a record fourth consecutive Mercury Prize nomination<\/a>, as well as a BRIT Award<\/a>. Speaking to NME about the record<\/a>, bassist Theo Ellis told us: \u201cIt was a challenge making this record, and it\u2019s quite challenging to play some parts of it live. So to have that element of growth and not feeling like you\u2019re resting on your laurels is really exciting. I feel like we\u2019re pushing ourselves and there\u2019s still stuff to reach when we play these songs.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Julia Cumming, the singer released her first solo album \u2018Julia\u2019 back in April, after previewing it with the reflective single \u2018My Life\u2019<\/a> and the nostalgic \u2018Please Let Me Remember This\u2019.<\/a><\/p>\n
