Speaking to Aftonbladet, Melodifestivalen project manager Anders Wistbacka stated that the Melodifestivalen team is: “convinced that we will receive quite a few AI songs”. However, he cannot give a definitive answer, as they do not have any technology to vet songs for use of AI.

Regarding the use of AI in the selection, SVT has not banned the use of AI in song creation, with Mr Wistbacka adding:

“You can look at whether it is a person we do not know who is submitting a lot of songs in a lot of different genres. That in itself suggests that it could be AI.

We don’t want to be the first to come up with rules for what should apply, but this is an issue that the music industry will solve, needs to solve. And then we will respect and follow it.”

This is in contrast to the Norwegian broadcaster NRK, which has banned songs that are entirely created by AI from competing in its selection process. Mads Tørklep, Norway’s Head of Delegation for the Eurovision Song Contest, told NRK that he believes between 30 and 50 songs entirely created by AI have been submitted this year, despite the ban.

Mr Tørklep is also aligned with his Swedish equivalent of the need to work with the music industry on how best AI should be used as a tool in music production and what rules should be introduced explaining:

“It is difficult for us to stop the use of technology. The industry may have to take the lead in how to solve this.”

The Eurovision Song Contest currently does not have a set rule regarding the use of artificial intelligence in songs competing in the contest. To date only once has a selection process encouraged the use of AI when in 2024, four songs written with the aid of artificial intelligence competed for a place in Una Voce per San Marino.

Source: Aftonbladet / NRK

Aftonbladet and NRK have reported today that they believe fully AI-generated songs are now being submitted for their…

[29
96,33958,391,56,54,55
post-800681","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tv","tag-entertainment","tag-headline","tag-tv","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
