Monty Python star Michael Palin has fractured his ribs and pelvis after suffering a fall in his bathroom and has been forced to cancel his tour and other events for the next few months.<\/p>\n

The actor and presenter, 83, is currently appearing in his new Channel 5 travel show Michael Palin in the Philippines and was touring tales from the show and a new book around the UK.<\/p>\n

However, he posted a statement to fans on Instagram<\/a> tonight explaining he had been in hospital receiving treatment after an accident and would have to end the tour.<\/p>\n

He wrote: \u201cMy accident was quite unsensational, a slip in the family bathroom where I\u2019ve walked for 58 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI fell heavily on my left side resulting in three fractured ribs and a minor pelvic fracture. The recovery of bone fractures takes a long time especially when you\u2019re 83.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a comedy fall with no audience there to see it. I shall stick to fish slapping dances from now on. Sincere apologies to everyone who has already put in a lot of work on the tour.”<\/p>\n

He concluded: “I\u2019d also like to say a huge thanks to the NHS<\/a> for their incredible care.\u201d<\/p>\n

A statement posted on his social media read: \u201cMichael Palin apologises profusely for the cancellation of his Philippines book tour and of any other events over the next few months.\u201d<\/p>\n

A message on Michael’s website explained: “It is with great regret, due to unforeseen circumstances that the UK tour of Michael Palin in the Philippines is being postponed.<\/p>\n

“Ticket holders will be contacted by their original point of purchase with further details and rescheduled dates as soon as they are available.<\/p>\n

“Michael apologises to everyone who bought tickets and thanks you for your understanding and can\u2019t wait to see you on the re-scheduled date.”<\/p>\n
