\u201cI had the privilege of meeting Greta Gerwig, a powerhouse in the world of cinema,\u201d Page wrote on Instagram<\/a> in a post timed to coincide with the release of the film\u2019s trailer.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cShe is a switched on creative, as seen by way of Little Women, Lady Bird and Barbie, and the soon to be released @narniamovie @official_narnia,\u201d Page continued. \u201cI am thrilled that she chose Stairway to Heaven in the trailer for her film.\u201d<\/p>\n Speaking to Stephen Colbert at a preview event ahead of the trailer\u2019s release, Gerwig reportedly explained how she convinced Led Zeppelin to sign off on her use of the song.<\/p>\n \u201cGerwig wrote to the band\u2019s vocalist Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page and showed them an early cut of the film to convince them to let her use their rock anthem for the big screen,\u201d Variety reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThey saw the heart of the film,\u201d Gerwig explained, according to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n USA Today reports<\/a> that Gerwig met with both Page and Plant. \u201cThey had not let it be used for anything,\u201d Gerwig reportedly said of the song. \u201cI was so moved that they allowed me to use this song,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n \u201cThey did it because they saw the heart in the story,\u201d Gerwig said, according to the AP<\/a>. \u201cAnd they, too, love C.S. Lewis.\u201d<\/p>\n Page and the other members of Led Zeppelin remain selective over how the band\u2019s music is used in film and television.<\/p>\n The band signed off on the use of \u201cBlack Dog\u201d in the trailer for \u201cThe Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth\u201d which was released last month.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The band also agreed to license \u201cWhole Lotta Love\u201d for use in a key sequence in the 2025 film \u201cF1\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Led Zeppelin reportedly charges a seven-figure fee to license its music for use in films, The Los Angeles Times reported in 2012<\/a>.<\/p>\n Those licensing agreements are often personally decided upon by the surviving members of the band and sometimes come with specific conditions.<\/p>\n For example, when the 2012 film \u201cArgo\u201d requested to licence \u201cWhen The Levee Breaks\u201d, Led Zeppelin requested that a shot of a needle dropping on to the record in the film when the song begins to play was altered to show it dropping on to the correct track from Led Zeppelin\u2019s fourth album.<\/p>\n \u201cSo not only did we have to pay for the song,\u201d the film\u2019s director Ben Affleck told The Los Angeles Times, \u201cwe had to pay for an effects shot. You have to appreciate their attention to detail, though.\u201d<\/p>\n Led Zeppelin has been particularly reluctant to grant licenses for others to use \u201cStairway to Heaven\u201d. The band repeatedly refused requests in the 2000s to license the song for a theme park rollercoaster.<\/p>\n \u201cThey felt the song was too revered as they mentioned it is played at weddings and funerals and other important occasions,\u201d Hard Rock Park Chief Creative Officer Jon Binkowski told LedZepNews last year<\/a>.
