Shane Gillis\u2019s Saturday Night Live appearance riled the internet<\/a>, as well as some of the show\u2019s stars and alums.<\/p>\n The controversial comedian<\/a>, 38, set off an internet firestorm over his comments about women during Saturday\u2019s show<\/a>. In his opening monologue, Gillis said that women at the gym \u201cdress like wh***s now\u201d, adding: \u201cLook, I\u2019m sorry there\u2019s no other way to describe it.\u201d He then raised eyebrows when he accidentally blurted out \u201cf***\u201d in a Dr. Seuss-themed skit.<\/p>\n In the following days, dozens of celebrities have spoken out against Gillis, including Schitt\u2019s Creek star Dan Levy<\/a>, Elizabeth Banks, Martha Plimpton, and others.<\/p>\n Gillis\u2019s performance prompted several SNL alums and stars to weigh in, including current Weekend Update anchor Michael Che.<\/p>\n Che is actively promoting his new Netflix special, Michael Che: Shot in Minnesota, and was displeased by how Gillis\u2019s comments and the surrounding backlash<\/a> will affect him.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n In a carousel Instagram post, Che wrote: \u201cGotta do more press this week to promote the special…wonder what every f***ing questions gonna be about ..thanks a lot shane.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s not clear whether Che was being sarcastic or not, as some online suspected.<\/p>\n SNL alum Ego Nwodim also chimed in. She shared a selfie from the gym on her Instagram Story with the caption, \u201cWh*** reporting for duty.\u201d<\/p>\n In a follow-up, she shared a photo of her post-gym meal with the caption, \u201cGetting my 30 grams of protein in after heauxing.\u201d<\/p>\n Nwodim joined the show in 2018 and left in 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n Levy, though not a member of the SNL family, didn\u2019t hold back in his criticism of Gillis<\/a>, especially given the current discussions around the Cornell 7 case<\/a> \u2014 the alleged 2024 gang rape by seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity at Cornell University <\/a>\u2014 that has sparked nationwide outrage.<\/p>\n In a video posted Monday to Instagram, Levy said, \u201cWomen wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them wh***s, it makes the men calling them wh***s misogynists. There\u2019s a difference there,\u201d Levy said, adding that he\u2019d \u201cseen more men\u2019s nipples at the gym than I\u2019ve ever seen women showing their bodies off.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cI\u2019m speechless that something like that can exist on live national television, and to be honest more men need to be standing up in opposition to it, because it\u2019s complacency that has created the environment with which women are sexually assaulted and it\u2019s a \u2019conversation\u2019 as opposed to a crime.<\/p>\n \u201cMen need to be defending women more. This is not a women\u2019s issue, this is an everybody issue. Because the more that men objectify women in the media, the more that other men see them as objects and treat them as objects.\u201d<\/p>\n Levy ended his video by reiterating that women \u201care not objects\u201d, before playfully adding: \u201cThey are superior human beings to men.
