Just over a decade after his creation, James Bond made his official big-screen debut and quickly became a favorite among viewers as well as readers. In the years since his initial appearance, 007 has been portrayed by six principal Eon film actors, each of whom brought their own unique flair to the iconic spy. That number is set to increase soon, as a new direction for the beloved character is unveiled.

Isaac Rouse has been announced as the latest star to take on the playboy spy, and he’s set to deliver a completely fresh take on the character. Rather than rehash old stories or send Bond on another action-packed mission, Young Bond: SilverFin will set the story long before 007 earned his iconic codename.

The next Bond story will take the character back to his schoolboy years at Eton College, separate from Denis Villeneuve’s eventual theatrical release. A Big Finish full‑cast audio adaptation of Charlie Higson’s Young Bond series will star Rouse in the leading role, alongside Charlotte McBurney (A Plague Tale: Requiem), Tim McInnerny (Game of Thrones), and Paterson Joseph (Casualty and Wonka), according to Collider. The audio adaptation also features Spooks star Miranda Raison, William Hope from the Alien franchise, and Lucy Fleming, niece of Ian Fleming. Tim Bentinck, the iconic voice of Bond in several 1990s video games, is also set to make an appearance.

The last theatrical Bond release was 2021’s No Time To Die, which also served as Daniel Craig’s final appearance in the role of James Bond. The new Young Bond project marks the first step in a return to the beloved character, ahead of his next theatrical excursion. We’ve yet to learn who will next portray the iconic agent on the big screen, but Young Bond allows fans of the franchise to return to Fleming’s world. It will explore the character in his youth as he attends Eton College, forms bonds among his peers, and takes the first steps toward becoming the world-famous, martini-sipping womanizer we all know and love.

Big Finish

Young Bond: SilverFin takes place in the 1930s and launches a series that takes Bond from schoolboy to secret agent.
