\n Avon Reach, run by Colten Care, was praised by inspectors for its approach to supporting older people and helping them “live full lives, not just receive care.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The CQC\u2019s deputy director of adult social care in Dorset, Neil Cox, said: “When we inspected Avon Reach, we found an exceptional service where staff and leaders worked hard to give people the best possible quality of life.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Feedback from people was overwhelmingly positive, and it was clear staff had taken the time to really get to know them, not just their care needs, but their histories, personalities and what mattered most to them.\n<\/p>\n

\n “People told us about staff who went out of their way to help them keep doing the things they loved.\n<\/p>\n
\n “One person who\u2019d always enjoyed growing vegetables was supported to grow tomatoes at the service, and we saw them tending their plants with real pride.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Another person who was 96 years old was supported to fulfil a lifelong ambition of flying an aircraft.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The CQC said staff didn\u2019t shy away from managing risk sensibly to support independence.\n<\/p>\n
\n One resident was helped to play table tennis again, while another was encouraged to use their wheelchair independently as part of their daily exercise routine.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Cox said: “People also spoke warmly about staying connected to their community, from weekly coffee mornings running for over three years to intergenerational visits from local children.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It was clear these relationships had become a meaningful part of people\u2019s lives, not just one-off events.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Leaders and staff should be very proud of these findings.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It\u2019s clear this is a service built around treating people as individuals and helping them live full lives, not just receive care.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Other services should look to this report to see what they can learn.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The home was rated outstanding for being effective, caring, and well-led, and good for being responsive and safe.\n<\/p>\n
\n Inspectors found that one resident, who had been unable to walk on arrival, regained enough strength to walk 200 metres unaided, allowing them to join meals and outings with friends and family.\n<\/p>\n
\n The home also introduced a water-based cleaning system to reduce chemical exposure and improve safety.\n<\/p>\n
\n One health professional described Avon Reach as one of the best homes they had ever visited.\n<\/p>\n
