If the pairing of Tim Burton and Kazuo Ishiguro feels like something you\u2019ve already heard about happening, it\u2019s not hard to figure out why. While the director and the writer haven\u2019t actually worked together before, Jenna Ortega\u2014star of Burton\u2019s Wednesday<\/a> and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice<\/a>\u2014will soon headline Taika Waititi\u2019s adaptation of Ishiguro\u2019s 2021 novel Klara and the Sun<\/a>. So the association is there. And now it\u2019s actually crystallizing into a real project.<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/a> reports that Burton and Ishiguro may team up on a film they will direct and write, respectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlot details are being kept under wraps,\u201d the trade writes, \u201cthough multiple sources say it would be set in post-World War II Japan. Sources also say this [is] an original script by Ishiguro and not based on a previous or upcoming novel.\u201d<\/p>\n

So far, there\u2019s no distributor attached, nor any other talent, including who might star in the movie.<\/p>\n

Deadline also notes that \u201cWhile it has not been confirmed whether this would be the director\u2019s next film since it is technically still in development, it is a project he has given the most attention to since production on Wednesday recently ended.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wednesday season three is due to hit Netflix in 2027.<\/p>\n

Klara and the Sun, starring Ortega as the android \u201cartificial friend\u201d of an ailing teenage girl, was directed and co-written by Waititi. It hits theaters October 23. Other Ishiguro adaptations that have made it to screens include The Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go; Guillermo del Toro is also said to be developing a stop-motion animated take on The Buried Giant<\/a>.<\/p>\n
