A member of South Africa’s Lions rugby playing squad has died in France ahead of Saturday’s Champions Cup fixture against La Rochelle.<\/p>\n
According to French media reports, the player was found unconscious in a shower cubicle at \u200ca hotel on the Ile de Re – an island off France’s western coast connected to the mainland by a bridge near La Rochelle – where the team had \u200cbeen staying since Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called shortly after 10am and attended to the player, who was in \u2060cardiorespiratory arrest. Attempts to resuscitate \u200bhim were unsuccessful, the reports \u200badded.<\/p>\n
The Lions were due to make \u200btheir debut in the competition, but \u2060the match is now in doubt, as are two more matches in \u2060Scotland in the United \u200bRugby Championship that they were due \u200bto play over the next fortnight.<\/p>\n
