Visits to a Welsh hospital ward have been halted as a result of a scabies outbreak. Hywel Dda Health Board have taken the action as a result of the issue at Prince Philip Hospital.<\/p>\n

It says the restrictions have been put in place at its Bryngolau ward, adding that the health and safety of patents, visitors and staff is its priority.<\/p>\n

A statement from Hywel Dda Health Board reads as follows: “Due to an outbreak of scabies, visiting to the Bryngolau Ward at Prince Philip Hospital is being restricted from today, Friday, October 16.<\/p>\n

“The health, safety and wellbeing of our patients, visitors and staff is our priority. We are following national guidance and have taken additional steps to reduce the risk of infection spreading.<\/p>\n

“The situation is being reviewed regularly and the risk to the wider public remains low.<\/p>\n

“Any patients who have recently been discharged from the ward will be contacted directly.”<\/p>\n

The health board has released further advise on scabies on its website<\/a>. It’s the second time in as many month that there has been a scabies outbreak at Prince Philip Hospital. Visitors were also asked to stay away in September.<\/a><\/p>\n

Wards were also closed to visitors<\/a> last month at Glangwili hospital in Carmarthen<\/a>.<\/p>\n
