{"id":805436,"date":"2026-10-17T10:00:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-17T10:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/805436\/"},"modified":"2026-10-17T10:00:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-17T10:00:09","slug":"how-an-empty-shop-in-tamworth-became-britains-best-pub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/805436\/","title":{"rendered":"How an empty shop in Tamworth became Britain&#8217;s best pub"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">For George, it was the building&#8217;s character that ultimately changed everything.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The more work we carried out, the more we felt its character should be experienced by customers, rather than simply used to house the brewery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It became clear that it was somewhere people should be able to sit, enjoy a pint and spend time in.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">That evolution can still be seen throughout the venue today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Visitors stepping inside are greeted by intimate rooms, traditional furnishings, hop garlands suspended from ceilings and vintage beer memorabilia, making it difficult to imagine the building&#8217;s former life as a retail unit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 16th Century shopfront remains a focal point, while beyond the courtyard sits one of the pub&#8217;s most striking features: uninterrupted views of Tamworth&#8217;s Norman castle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The castle backdrop has become one of the venue&#8217;s defining characteristics, helping create an atmosphere that feels far removed from its former role as a shop unit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Louise said: &#8220;The venue evolved organically.
