A mum died in hospital<\/a> hours after her family say she was given an operation she did not need.<\/p>\n Kirsty Storrie, 41, passed away at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary<\/a> on October 7 after she was treated for a perforated bowel.<\/p>\n Her loved ones claim medics later admitted they found no evidence of the condition and could only tell them that her heart had suddenly stopped.<\/p>\n The mum-of-two, from Barmulloch in Glasgow, had been suffering from vomiting symptoms since August and was first diagnosed with a viral infection.<\/p>\n By early September, she was passing blood and went to A&E, but her family have told how doctors decided that the issue was being handled by her GP and sent her away.<\/p>\n Around two weeks later, she returned to hospital by ambulance and was reportedly told she had Crohn’s disease or colitis<\/a> – both inflammatory diseases of the bowel.<\/p>\n Kirsty’s family were told her heart suddenly stopped. (Image: Supplied)<\/p>\n Then, four days after she returned home, Kirsty was in excruciating pain and went back to hospital where surgeons carried out an operation for a perforated bowel.<\/p>\n Her brother John Paul, 31, told the Record doctors later said they had given her the wrong treatment.<\/p>\n Kirsty tragically died one day later.<\/p>\n John Paul said: “We could all see how unwell Kirsty was. She as practically bedbound when she was at home and my mum was looking after her young daughters.<\/p>\n “She went to the GP and hospital multiple times so I firmly believe if they had taken her seriously at the start she would still be alive today.<\/p>\n “She should never have been let out when she was in with suspected Crohn’s disease or colitis<\/a>, but even when she went back in and had the surgery for what they thought was a perforated bowel, they still didn’t know what was wrong with her.<\/p>\n John-Paul and Kirsty. (Image: Supplied)<\/p>\n “The night after the surgery, she had to be admitted to intensive care because her breathing had become really laboured.<\/p>\n “Then her lung collapsed and the doctor’s were openly telling our family they had been treating her for the wrong thing.<\/p>\n “It seemed like a guessing game at that point and nobody knew what was happening.”<\/p>\n The following afternoon, John Paul was on his way back to the hospital when his mum called to say Kirsty had died.<\/p>\n He said: “Time just stood still. My whole world collapsed at that point.”<\/p>\n The devastated brother has now vowed to fight for answers for Kirsty’s girls Channing, 14, and Taite, 7, while the family wait to find out her cause of death.<\/p>\n Kirsty with her youngest daughter, Taite. (Image: Supplied)<\/p>\n He continued: “My two nieces have lost their mum so we won’t rest until we get answers.<\/p>\n “Surely the doctors should have been exploring all options before it got too late.<\/p>\n “I’ve now lost all faith in the NHS.”<\/p>\n Police Scotland has since confirmed it is probing Kirsty’s death.<\/p>\n A spokesperson said: \u201cOn Friday, October, 2026, we were informed of the death of a 41-year-old woman within Glasgow Royal Infirmary. (Image: Supplied)<\/p>\n A Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service added: “The Procurator Fiscal has received a report on the death of a 41-year-old woman in Glasgow on 7 October 2026.<\/p>\n “An investigation into the death is ongoing and significant developments will be shared with the family.\u201d<\/p>\n An NHSGGC spokesperson said: “While we cannot discuss the details of any patient\u2019s care, we would like once again to extend our sincere condolences to the family of Ms Storrie.<\/p>\n “Throughout a patient\u2019s time with us, we endeavour to keep relatives fully informed about the nature of a patient\u2019s condition and the treatment they are undergoing.<\/p>\n “We are sorry that relatives still have questions about Ms Storrie\u2019s care, and we would encourage them to contact their clinical team so we can discuss their concerns in more detail.”<\/p>\n A fundraising page has been created to help with Kirsty’s funeral costs.
