Set in the 70s, Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon return as Navajo police team Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. This time, they’re looking for a runaway school student, while a killer is also on a search of her own. It can only be icons week. Poor Melanie and Aljaž won’t be around to take on Bonnie Tyler as planned, and Delta is sitting it out with an injury. But Cach and Maddie will take on the foxtrot, while Lacey and Vito glide to the American Smooth and John and Katya get serious with a paso. HR

Talking Pictures: World Cinema Classics

9pm, BBC Four

Celia Imrie returns to celebrate international films, starting with Akira Kurosawa’s Ran, which Christopher Nolan showed to his team when making blockbuster The Odyssey. Imrie also looks at the works of directors Agnès Varda, Francois Truffaut, Luis Buñuel and Ingmar Bergman. It’s certainly hard to believe – unless you’re a character in her literary mystery show. In episode four, book editor Susan (Manville) is woken by police to be informed that she’s the prime suspect for a hit and run on her author Eliot (Jamie Blackley). Can she prove her innocence? But unlike its US counterpart, SNL UK has not misfired yet thanks to stunningly sharp writing, so expectations are high. The Streets will be the musical guest. Priya Elan

Krapopolis

11.45pm, BBC Three

Richard Ayoade voices a fusspot king trying to modernise his ancient Greek city in this daft but zinger-packed animated comedy from Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon. This marathon of six episodes includes a trip to Hades, a melancholy hydra and divine voice cameos from Susan Sarandon and Steve Buscemi. But Tenzing Norgay (Genden Phuntsok), the Tibetan-Indian mountaineer who joined them on that historic 1953 trek to the summit, called the peak by its Sherpa name Chomolungma, meaning “holy mother”. To Tenzing, the mountain is not so much somewhere to conquer but someone to connect with. As director Jennifer Peedom’s film tells his story, it scales the heights of the adventure biopic, discovering new angles from which to view old themes of ambition, colonialism and class. Ellen E Jones

Cléo from 5 to 7

Saturday, 9.45pm, BBC Four

The plot of this 1962, Agnès Varda-directed classic is deceptively simple: as she awaits the results of a cancer biopsy, Florence (Corinne Marchand), a singer known professionally as ‘Cléo Victoire’, wanders around Paris, meeting old friends and strangers, getting tarot readings or going to the cinema; alternating between despair, resignation and a kind of ecstasy. Yet each encounter, and even the apparent longueurs in between, vibrates with the life-affirming energy of the French New Wave, a movement busily reinventing the form before our very eyes. Martin Scorsese’s masterpiece of masterpieces, and a film you should rewatch every few years just to recalibrate your cinematic senses. Ray Liotta stars as Henry Hill, an Irish-Italian kid from round the way, and an “average nobody”, according to his iconic voiceover. That is, until he gets mixed up with wiseguys Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro), Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci) and Paulie (Paul Sorvino), who teach him their code and show him the only way to live.
