British<\/a> under-30s could soon be able to work freely in any job in Europe<\/a> \u2013 as Andy Burnham <\/a>sets his sights on a closer relationship with the EU<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Brussels<\/a> is understood to be in talks with other EU<\/a> states to allow young people to work in the UK<\/a> without restrictions, following tense negotiations over the Youth Experience Scheme.<\/p>\n

Previous discussions have raised concerns that young Britons may face tighter restrictions than their counterparts coming to the UK<\/a>, as individual member states have the final say over who can be issued work visas in their country. <\/p>\n

But, according to The i Paper, Brussels<\/a> is seeking an agreement with EU<\/a> countries to ensure Britons will be able to work in any job under the scheme. The UK side would be willing to accept this agreement, the newspaper reported.<\/p>\n

Mr Burnham has promised to use the UK-EU summit in Brussels next month to push for improved relations with the bloc. <\/p>\n

The prime minister reopened the debate in his first speech as prime minister at the party conference last month, when he blamed Brexit<\/a> for a decade of drift and division and insisted he could go \u201call the way\u201d in proposing to rejoin the bloc.<\/p>\n

Mr Burnham has promised that the \u201cpublic will be the boss\u201d, but insisted that they backed his \u201cpragmatic approach\u201d. <\/p>\n

He is pushing to secure a deal with Brussels and warned that \u201csticking with the status quo is not good enough\u201d.<\/p>\n

It follows a major poll last week which found that nearly three-quarters of Labour<\/a> voters want the prime minister to include talks to rejoin the EU in the next manifesto. <\/p>\n

The survey, carried out by European Movement UK <\/a>in partnership with Obsurvant and seen by The Independent, found that Britons would also vote by 57 to 30 per cent to become part of the EU again in another referendum.<\/p>\n

This publication has led the campaign for Britain to rebuild cooperation, trust, trade, mobility, security and cultural ties with Europe<\/a>. <\/p>\n

UK and Brussels are still working on how many people will be able to access the youth mobility scheme, with the UK wanting to limit the number of young people who come into the country to below 50,000, while the EU wants a cap of 150,000 visas. <\/p>\n

According to the newspaper, EU states are also considering delaying a demand to reduce tuition fees<\/a>, which has been one of the thorniest issues in discussions. <\/p>\n

EU member states have pushed for young people to access home fee status, while the UK has resisted lowering tuition fees amid pressure from universities. <\/p>\n

A government spokesperson said negotiations were ongoing and aimed at benefitting both the UK and EU.<\/p>\n
