Former St Helens head coach Justin Holbrook has committed his long-term future to the Newcastle Knights after signing a new two-year contract extension.

The agreement keeps the 49-year-old at the helm of the Australian club until at least the end of the 2030 season following a remarkable debut year in charge.

Holbrook, who famously won the 2019 Super League Grand Final during his tenure at St Helens, enjoyed an immediate impact upon returning to head coaching in the NRL, guiding Newcastle to their first Grand Final appearance in 25 years.

Knights Director of Football Chris James paid tribute to Holbrook’s influence across the club following the announcement.

“Justin has done an incredible job since arriving at the start of this season,” James said.

“He has built an environment where our players are happy, they enjoy coming to work, and every single day they walk through the door wanting to get better.

“That culture is the foundation of everything this group achieved in reaching our first Grand Final in 25 years.
