{"id":807206,"date":"2026-10-19T04:04:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-19T04:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/807206\/"},"modified":"2026-10-19T04:04:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-19T04:04:08","slug":"gta-6-can-you-cheat-on-someone-with-a-video-game-character","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/807206\/","title":{"rendered":"GTA 6: Can you cheat on someone with a video game character?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">For decades, video games have allowed players to build relationships with non-player characters, or NPCs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Gamers could marry villagers in Harvest Moon in 1996, shape emotional storylines in Final Fantasy VII and pursue more complex romances in role-playing games like Baldur&#8217;s Gate II.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In life simulator The Sims, they could flirt, date, marry and have children with computer-controlled characters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But all those interactions were tightly scripted, based on rules and storylines written in advance by game developers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">GTA 6 appears to offer something more dynamic, allowing players to shape the relationship between Jason and Lucia through a wider range of open-world interactions and choices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The more sophisticated games get, the less likely it is that players get pulled out of the experience,&#8221; says Arienne Ferchaud, an associate professor at Florida State University who studies how people form connections with fictional characters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Games are doing a better job of mimicking reality and mimicking social relationships.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"For decades, video games have allowed players to build relationships with non-player characters, or NPCs.
