Sleaford Mods<\/a> have dropped a new expanded edition of their latest album \u2018The Demise Of Planet X\u2019 <\/a>featuring nine previously unheard tracks and a video for \u2018Cato\u2019 which features Life Without Buildings<\/a>\u2019 Sue Tompkins.<\/p>\n

The 13th album from Andrew Fearn and Jason Williamson featured collaborations from the likes of Gwendoline Christie, Aldous Harding<\/a>, Big Special<\/a> and more, and reached Number Six in the UK charts. Now,\u00a0the Nottingham noise duo have now dropped an expanded version of the album, featuring nine never-before-released tracks. All the songs were written at the same time as the original tracklist, but remained as unreleased demos until now.<\/p>\n

New releases include \u2018Cato\u2019 \u2013 another song with Sue Tompkins, who also featured on previous single \u2018No Touch\u2019. It didn\u2019t make it onto the record as the duo didn\u2019t think it fit with the rest of the songs, but did remain on hold as the duo liked it enough to declare that the Life Without Buildings frontwoman \u201ccould join the band\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was so brilliant to be asked to do another song with Jason and Andrew,\u201d Tompkins shared. \u201cI thought the song was very catchy \u2013 and throbby! It\u2019s got a pace and a relentlessness about it, and singing opposite Jason almost feels like a duet. He sings, then I sing. It goes back and forth, all the while with Andrew\u2019s throbby music underneath. The panic of \u2018Cato\u2019 about to spring out!\u201d<\/p>\n

Other new tracks include an alternative version of \u2018The Good Life\u2019, which includes different lyrics and was recorded before Gwendoline Christie added her explosive vocals, \u2018The Return Of The Bin White Dukes\u2019, which the duo describe as the precursor to \u2018Don Draper\u2019 and energetic punk track \u2018Give Em What They Want\u2019 which the duo liked but didn\u2019t think fit with the rest of the album.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess it\u2019s like a curry, it always tastes better the next day,\u201d said Williamson of the songs that didn\u2019t make the album. \u201cYou listen to these tracks in the studio, and you don\u2019t think it fits.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen you come back to them again six months later, and you realise you were on to something, so I am really pleased we can now put all these songs out into the world for people to hear. I also hope the demos give everyone who dug \u2018The Demise Of Planet X\u2019 a better idea of what we put into making that record because it was quite a ride for both of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

They continued: \u201cWe ended up with loads of demos that are good and virtually finished, that we didn\u2019t take forward for the record. They give you a good idea of the process behind the album, though they all possess something in their own right too.\u201d<\/p>\n

NME gave \u2018The Demise Of Planet X\u2019 a four-star review<\/a>, writing: \u201cSleaford Mods are never in the same stagnation as the doldrums that inspire them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWilliamson\u2019s powerless rage bristles with enough humour, brutal honesty and inventive imagery to keep you guessing, while multi-instrumentalist Andrew Fearn \u2013 stepping up as co-producer on this record \u2013 adds flashes of genre-clashing colour and light to make this the band\u2019s most musically ambitious and diverse record yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

The duo are currently underway with their European tour, which kicked off last week and continues in Lausanne, Switzerland this weekend (Sunday October 25). Other shows run throughout the rest of the year, and the tour picks up in the US in Spring 2027. Visit here<\/a> for tickets.<\/p>\n
