As always, we here at LWOT will be offering predictions for every match on the slate, as well as all the action from WTA Ningbo, but which players will advance to the quarterfinals?

WTA Osaka Day 3 Predictions
Ashlyn Krueger vs Lanlana Tararudee

Head-to-head: Krueger 1-0 Tararudee

2023 champion Ashlyn Krueger got her campaign at WTA Osaka off to a solid start by defeating Janice Tjen in straight sets. One break in each set was enough for the American, who faced just one break point in the entire match. Lanlana Tararudee also played a great match in her debut, hitting 11 aces in two sets. The two met last week, when Krueger came back from a set down to win, and I expect another close match with the same outcome.

Prediction: Krueger in 3

Tereza Valentova vs Lilli Tagger

Head-to-head: first meeting

Last year’s finalist Tereza Valentova defeated Zhang Shuai in a see-sawing match. Valentova dominated the first set, then lost her focus in the second. She was broken while serving for the match in the third, then broke back to win. Still, some rustiness (and nerves) were to be expected given the amount of time that Valentova had been off-court.

Lilli Tagger played one of her best matches of the season to beat fifth seed Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets. Tagger has been in terrible form and needed this win to regain her confidence. Expect the Austrian to dictate with her serve and win – even if she has to go the distance to do it.

Prediction: Tagger in 3

Katie Boulter vs Viktorija Golubic

Head-to-head: Boulter 1-2 Golubic

WTA Osaka eighth seed Katie Boulter lost just four games in her first-round match and will be coming into this match with confidence as she looks to tie herhead-to-head record against Viktorija Golubic, who also won her opening match comfortably. Boulter easily beat Golubic earlier this season, but the British player hasn’t been in strong form lately. Golubic will look to extend the match and use her creativity to get under Boulter’s skin. I’ll go with the Swiss player this time.

Prediction: Golubic in 3

Talia Gibson vs Sinja Kraus

Head-to-Head: first meeting

22-year-old Australian Talia Gibson survived a stern test against Harriet Dart in the first round at WTA Osaka. She has won many matches this season, and that helped her confidence in tight situations against Dart. Gibson will play another qualifier, Sinja Kraus, who has also been in excellent form in the last month. Kraus has the grit, but Gibson’s extra firepower gives her the advantage in this matchup. The Australian should advance to the quarterfinals.

Prediction: Gibson in 3

Main photo credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The second round will commence on day three at WTA Osaka with four exciting matches on the slate…

[38
101,118,56,54,55
post-809188","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tennis","tag-sports","tag-tennis","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
