A warning has been issued by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde that A&E departments across the region are experiencing \u201chigh levels of demand\u201d.<\/p>\n
The health board is asking patients whose conditions are not life-threatening to seek alternatives rather than visiting A&E, where they face potentially long wait times.<\/p>\n
Dr Claire Harrow, deputy medical director for acute services at NHSGGC, said: \u201cOur A&E teams are working incredibly hard to care for patients, and anyone experiencing a life- or limb-threatening emergency should call 999 or attend A&E immediately.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor minor injuries and illnesses, there are a number of other services available which may be able to provide the care and advice you need more quickly and closer to home.<\/p>\n
\u201cTaking a moment to consider the most appropriate service for your needs could save you time, while helping our A&E teams focus on those patients who need emergency care most.\u201d<\/p>\n
For minor injuries and illnesses, the health board suggests self-care at home using trusted NHS resources, advice and treatment from a community pharmacy, or other local healthcare services.<\/p>\n
People visiting a hospital with a non-emergency are facing longer wait times as medical teams deal with the most seriously unwell patients.<\/p>\n
