United Kingdom Prime Minister Andy Burnham has introduced a campaign instating a \u00a3100 fine for bus and rail passengers who play loud music without headphones.<\/p>\n
Since 2005, legislation has prevented playing loud music or singing while riding public transportation, but the new national initiative seeks to grant local authorities greater power to enforce these laws. The campaign also extends regulations to buses as well as train cars. Public reminders to “share the carriage, not the noise” will be posted on operator websites, social media accounts, and in advertisements in public transportation hubs.<\/p>\n
According to polls, the majority of the public views the playing of loud music in public transit systems negatively, and the practice has been nicknamed “loudcasting” or “sodcasting.”<\/p>\n
“We’ve all been on the train when someone starts blasting music or videos from their phone,” says Burnham. “It gets on your nerves and can quickly spoil the journey.”<\/p>\n
