Golden Globe winner Paul Walter Hauser<\/a> has revealed his morality line for choosing the right role.<\/p>\n The 40-year-old actor and wrestler<\/a>, who will be hitting the ring for PROGRESS Wrestling in London on Sunday, has been open about his Christian faith, but he\u2019s still willing to work on raunchy comedies like Balls Up or Zach Cregger\u2019s gory Resident Evil<\/a> movie.<\/p>\n Speaking exclusively to Metro, Paul said: \u2018I really feel good about still doing R-rated comedies or an action film or something violent like wrestling. For me, it\u2019s more about the ideology.\u2019<\/p>\n The Hollywood star is much more likely to turn down working for a Trump supporter.<\/p>\n \u2018I\u2019ve been asked to work with certain people in the faith-based realm who I think support Donald Trump<\/a> and don\u2019t support equality and human rights,\u2019 he admitted. \u2018There are some folks I\u2019ve steered clear from, or told them the truth and just said I don\u2019t think the writing\u2019s up to snuff.\u2019<\/p>\n Paul\u2019s heard of plenty of \u2018Christian believing people\u2019 in Hollywood who refused to work on anything \u2018edgy\u2019 because they \u2018feel like they\u2019re sinning\u2019.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018I kind of feel like that limits your opportunities and also limits your ministry as a person,\u2019 he added, noting he sees himself as the \u2018potatoes\u2019 on the plate of the entertainment world, with a filmography including Inside Out 2<\/a>, Richard Jewell<\/a> and more.<\/p>\n \u2018Sometimes I get to be the entree, but I\u2019m usually just a part of the plate,\u2019 he smiled. \u2018And hopefully it\u2019s making the plate even better.\u2019<\/p>\n Then there\u2019s the wrestling, with Paul regularly appearing for Major League Wrestling (MLW) in the US, and the UK\u2019s own PROGRESS, where he is the current Proteus Champion.<\/p>\n \u2018My intention is to be 47 years old with an Academy Award<\/a> Oscar,\u2019 he said with sincerity. \u2018And still wrestling and bleeding all over the 2300 Arena in Philly at the age of 47.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t Paul will defend his title in an Open Challenge at Camden\u2019s Electric Ballroom on Sunday for Chapter 199: Bonestorm, and he\u2019s thrived in the role of the \u2018Mercenary\u2019, playing off his real-life Hollywood success.<\/p>\n \u2018That\u2019s not who I really am. But as the mercenary, I get to employ that psychological methodology and try to get in his head and surprise him,\u2019 he explained, admitting it hasn\u2019t come easy. \u2018In my daily life, I want to be liked. So wilfully making people not like me or playing into the very thing that they don\u2019t like about me, that was tricky.\u2019<\/p>\n Wrestling fans are sometimes sceptical of Paul as a performer, despite his numerous intense and bloody performances over the past few years, and even some major stars don\u2019t want him around.<\/p>\n \u2018I think that when I first started, everyone was just watching me to see if I get injured, if I could survive the matches, and I think I surprised some people,\u2019 he pondered, while he\u2019s heard a \u2018certain high-level wrestling star\u2019 has been talking behind his back.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tPROGRESS Wrestling this weekend\t\t\t<\/p>\n What: Paul Walter Hauser will defend the Proteus Championship in an Open Challenge<\/p>\n When: Sunday, October 25 at 3pm<\/p>\n Where: Electric Ballroom in Camden<\/p>\n Tickets: Still available here<\/a><\/p>\n \t\t \u2018They were basically alluding to the fact that I didn\u2019t really belong in wrestling,\u2019 he said, adding that they \u2018took a few shots at me in different ways\u2019.<\/p>\n \u2018It was somebody I actually am a fan of and admire their work, so I was kind of bummed,\u2019 he added. \u2018But, it\u2019s good to find out about that stuff because it puts a healthy chip on your shoulder, and it also lets you know who to help and who not to help when they call.\u2019<\/p>\n Paul certainly isn\u2019t shy of friends and contacts in wrestling and Hollywood. He\u2019s got \u2018seven movies in the can\u2019, including Olympic Curling comedy<\/a> Sticks and Stones, dark comedy The Very Best People, and crime thriller Tommy Karate with Pete Davidson<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s one of my favourite movies I\u2019ve ever been in. I\u2019m just okay in it, but Pete Davidson\u2019s amazing. He\u2019s transformative, and the movie itself is unbelievable,\u2019 he beamed. \u2018Most people would think he and I are doing a comedy, but that\u2019s a cool mob movie.\u2019<\/p>\n Paul reiterated that he\u2019s fine working on darker movies where there\u2019s a chance for lightness, although that isn\u2019t always the case in the final edit.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018Resident Evil was one where the original ending was a bit more sacrificial, where the character was kind of taking his own life to ensure that it didn\u2019t take more lives,\u2019 he explained. \u2018In the ending it ended up with in the edit, it was less of that sacrificial thing and more like, \u201cChaos ensues, this will never end.\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n He joked that it wasn\u2019t \u2018totally\u2019 what he\u2019d signed up for, but he was \u2018really proud\u2019 of the film, and loved working with leading man Austin Abrams and director Zach Cregger, who he hailed as \u2018super smart\u2019.<\/p>\n He\u2019s excited to see his next sci-fi horror The Flood, which will star Jennifer Lawrence, and he\u2019s expecting great things.<\/p>\n \u2018Zach knows the balls he can hit,\u2019 he added. \u2018I think that film is going to be another magnum opus from him.\u2019<\/p>\n Paul, who\u2019s also working on a Mick Foley biopic which now has a writer attached to take the project to the next level, is keen to keep pushing his diverse body of work as a true character actor, which includes the intense world of wrestling.<\/p>\n \u2018You get some bit of pent-up frustration or energy out you wouldn\u2019t necessarily get otherwise,\u2019 he said, even if his wife \u2018probably wishes\u2019 he\u2019d quit in the next couple of years. \u2018I would be shocked if I wasn\u2019t 48 years old, bleeding from my skull in front of 800 people.\u2019<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow![\"LOS](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/SEI_205624736-fffb-e1792769347862.jpg\")
