{"id":812600,"date":"2026-10-24T16:54:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-24T16:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/812600\/"},"modified":"2026-10-24T16:54:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-24T16:54:09","slug":"trainer-robert-garcia-sums-up-floyd-mayweathers-chances-of-beating-ryan-garcia-in-comeback-at-49","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/812600\/","title":{"rendered":"Trainer Robert Garcia sums up Floyd Mayweather&#8217;s chances of beating Ryan Garcia in comeback at 49"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Top trainer Robert Garcia has predicted a potential clash between <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/ryan-garcia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Garcia <\/a>and Floyd Mayweather, basing his thoughts on a conversation he shared with the latter around 10 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Back then, Mayweather was approaching <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/boxing\/story\/_\/id\/19357580\/floyd-mayweather-conor-mcgregor-full-coverage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">his money-spinning showdown with Conor McGregor<\/a>, who he defeated with an uncomplicated 10th-round finish in his last professional boxing match.<\/p>\n<p>But while he was able to outclass the UFC star, the American admitted at the time that his body, quite naturally, could no longer function at the level it was once accustomed to.<\/p>\n<p>While sharing this publicly, he also did so via a private conversation with Garcia \u2013 whose brother, Mikey, was exploring the possibility of fighting under the Mayweather Promotions banner.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Jnr0OEDs3Gs?si=fCCg7deZGNgc3-FN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">FightHype<\/a>, the esteemed coach highlighted the fact that, if Mayweather was experiencing signs of deterioration all those years ago, then things could hardly have improved for the 49-year-old ahead of a <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/floyd-mayweather-offered-title-shot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">possible clash with WBC world welterweight champion Garcia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know how many years it\u2019s been, but when Mikey [Garcia] became a free agent after everything that went on with Top Rank, Floyd came to my gym to try to work something out with Mikey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe told him: Look, we could do something where [you] give us a couple of fights, and then our last fight with Mayweather Promotions is against you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said: \u2018I can\u2019t fight anymore; my body\u2019s tired, my body\u2019s hurting already. My back hurts; my leg [hurts].\u2019 That was, what, seven years ago? Seven years ago I was 44, and I don\u2019t feel the same 1792860849.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMayweather\u2019s one of the greatest of all time but, if his body can\u2019t do it, I wouldn\u2019t recommend him to [fight Ryan Garcia]. Ryan\u2019s fast as f***.
