{"id":813272,"date":"2026-10-25T09:06:18","date_gmt":"2026-10-25T09:06:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/813272\/"},"modified":"2026-10-25T09:06:18","modified_gmt":"2026-10-25T09:06:18","slug":"major-isle-of-wight-road-closure-extended-as-more-damage-found","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/813272\/","title":{"rendered":"Major Isle of Wight road closure extended as more damage found"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countypress.co.uk\/news\/26613699.major-isle-wight-road-closing-3-weeks-sewer-defects-found\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">York Avenue in East Cowes was shut by Southern Water on October 7, with works scheduled to last for three weeks.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Parts of the sewer outside the recreation ground had badly deteriorated and one section had collapsed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Southern Water said the road would have to be dug up and the sewer pipe replaced.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  But since then, workers have found the damage to be worse than first feared, meaning more of the pipe must now be replaced.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The repairs will now continue until November 6.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A Southern Water spokesperson said: \u201cWe\u2019re sorry for the inconvenience this causes residents and commuters and thank them for their patience.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  York Avenue is also the main route for Red Funnel ferry traffic.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A Red Funnel spokesperson said: &#8220;Whilst we hope the impact of this will be minimal, it may cause some traffic delays at busier times &#8211; if you are travelling on our vehicle ferry on these dates, please allow additional time to arrive for check-in.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countypress.co.uk\/news\/26609727.ferry-updates-road-closures----isle-wight-travel-live\/?ref=mse_al\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Diversion routes are in place via Adelaide Grove and Victoria Grove and to facilitate traffic along Adelaide Grove, temporary no-parking restrictions are being enforced through cones.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The road is shut between Connaught Road and John Nash Avenue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"York Avenue in East Cowes was shut by Southern Water on October 7, with works scheduled to last&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":813273,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[84,59,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-813272","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-business","tag-business","tag-gb","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/813272","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=813272"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/813272\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/813273"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=813272"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=813272"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=813272"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
