{"id":81338,"date":"2025-08-21T00:13:22","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T00:13:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/81338\/"},"modified":"2025-08-21T00:13:22","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T00:13:22","slug":"uk-scraps-independent-space-agency-in-bid-to-cut-red-tape-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/81338\/","title":{"rendered":"UK scraps independent space agency in bid to cut red tape \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Space Minister Chris Bryant said the decision would result in \u201cmuch greater integration and focus\u201d while \u201cmaintaining the scientific expertise and the immense ambition of the sector.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2010, the organization currently operates as an executive agency of DSIT.<\/p>\n<p>The folding of the agency is part of a push by Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his Whitehall chief Pat McFadden to review arms-length bodies across government with a view to \u201crooting out unnecessary bureaucracy and duplication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was published alongside 60 recommendations from industry leaders on how to improve regulation for space missions, which the government said were \u201ckey\u201d to unlocking a market estimated to be worth \u00a32.7 billion by 2031.<\/p>\n<p>It added that with the \u201cright support,\u201d the U.K. space industry could capture a quarter of the global market for in-orbit servicing, assembly, and manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>While the move was praised by several industry leaders, Shadow Business Secretary Andrew Griffith, who was space minister in the previous Conservative government, was quick to criticize the plan.
