Gardening, walking and volunteering for conservation work are among the ways people in Surrey are being encouraged to improve their fitness under a new scheme.<\/p>\n
Surrey County Council has launched its Green Health and Wellbeing scheme, with an investment of \u00a3170,000.<\/p>\n
It will help small organisations such as community gardens and walking groups grow and work together.<\/p>\n
The programme is being run in partnership with the Community Foundation for Surrey.<\/p>\n
Mark Nuti, Surrey County Council cabinet member for health and communities, said: “We know that spending time in nature can have a positive impact on both physical and mental wellbeing. <\/p>\n
“By investing in community-led solutions, we’re helping to create healthier communities and a stronger, more connected Green Health network across Surrey.”<\/p>\n
The fund will be managed by the Community Foundation for Surrey.<\/p>\n
Chief executive Beccy Bowden said: “We want to support local organisations to extend this important work, helping more residents connect with nature and access the benefits of green and blue spaces.”<\/p>\n
