Tony, the recent film chronicling the early life of famous chef and travel documentarian Anthony Bourdain, has landed on a subscription service in the UK after its cinematic release.<\/p>\n

Set in 1975, the film follows Bourdain as he travels to Provincetown, Massachusetts under false pretenses and gets a restaurant job as a dishwasher.<\/p>\n

There he gets wrapped up in a world of drugs and debauchery, with toxic relationships with both his boss and his love interest.<\/p>\n

The Holdovers’ Dominic Sessa plays the main role, while the cast also includes Antonio Banderas, Emilia Jones, Leo Woodall, Stavros Halkias, and Monia Raymund.<\/p>\n

Behind the scenes, Tony was directed by Matt Johnson, the man who previously helmed BlackBerry and Nirvana the Band the Show the Movie.<\/p>\n

The film made a good $19 million at the box office, and has been an even bigger success with critics.<\/p>\n

On Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, it currently sits at an excellent score of 93% positive from 234 reviews.<\/p>\n

RogerEbert.com<\/a> called it “excellent” and stated that Sessa gives “the kind of performance that could have gone so wrong: turning Bourdain into a cocky jerk on one end or a puppy dog in need of love on the other. Sessa is up to the task of finding both the deep uncertainty and brash confidence in this complex young man, sometimes in the same beat.”<\/p>\n

“Tony feels as if it has come pippin’ hot out off the griddle; it’s the cinematic equivalent of a fiery flamb\u00e9 depicting a talented man\u2019s coming-of-age odyssey as he goes on to discover that there is far more to a clambake than he ever thought possible,” wrote the San Jose Mercury News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Slate<\/a> stated that: “Even if Tony were not a biopic at all, but simply the fictional story of one screwed-up kid’s transformative summer working in a restaurant kitchen, it would be a movie worth watching.”<\/p>\n
