The unreleased David Bowie<\/a> concert film \u201cStage\u201d, recorded on his 1978 tour behind Low<\/a> and \u201cHeroes\u201d<\/a>, will tour arenas as a novel multimedia experience in 2027. Moonage Daydream<\/a> director Brett Morgen has adapted footage from Bowie\u2019s Isolar II tour\u2014originally shot by David Hemmings\u2014for a multi-screen live show, also called \u201cStage\u201d. It will premiere at Berlin\u2019s Uber Arena on February 14 before further, as-yet-unannounced shows. Watch a trailer below.<\/p>\n

Morgen originally conceived the project in 2018, while sifting Bowie\u2019s archives for his 2022 documentary. (Hemmings\u2019 footage of \u201cHeroes\u201d, the song, made the cut of Moonage Daydream.) Bowie had intended Hemmings\u2019 film from Earls Court, in London, to play in unorthodox spaces, such as live venues, as an alternative to touring himself, The Guardian notes<\/a>. In the end, Bowie released a live album, 1978\u2019s Stage, but shelved the footage to focus on other projects; he also quit touring until 1983. \u201cI simply didn\u2019t like the way [Hemmings\u2019 footage] had been shot,\u201d Bowie told Uncut in 2001. \u201cNow, of course, it looks pretty good and I would suspect that it would make it out some time in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morgen spent years meticulously remastering Hemmings\u2019 35mm film and configuring it for multiple screens. The event will feature an integrated lighting show from Patrick Woodroffe and immersive audio mixed by Paul Massey.
