{"id":815783,"date":"2026-10-27T20:04:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-27T20:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/815783\/"},"modified":"2026-10-27T20:04:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-27T20:04:08","slug":"shakur-stevenson-given-20-day-deadline-for-fight-against-former-world-champion-or-risks-losing-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/815783\/","title":{"rendered":"Shakur Stevenson given 20 day deadline for fight against former world champion or risks losing title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shakur Stevenson has been ordered to fulfil the first mandatory defence of his WBO super-lightweight world title.<\/p>\n<p>The Newark southpaw moved up from lightweight \u2013 subsequently being stripped of his WBC belt in that division \u2013 to face Teofimo Lopez back in January.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/boxing\/story\/_\/id\/47794526\/stevenson-seizes-lopez-title-become-four-division-champion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Stevenson put on a boxing masterclass to become just the second man to beat Lopez and a four-division world champion.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He has since signed with, and been released from, Zuffa Boxing, while targeting fights with the likes of Devin Haney, Gary Antuanne Russell and Manny Pacquiao.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/stevenson-announces-split-from-zuffa\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fresh off his free agency \u2013 a decision he says he made in order to secure the biggest and best fights in the sport<\/a> \u2013 Stevenson has now been ordered to face Raymond Muratalla.<\/p>\n<p>Muratalla vacated his IBF lightweight belt last month, having been upgraded from interim to full champion in June 2025. He defended the belt against Andy Cruz and Robson Conceicao before making the decision to move up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/danrafael.substack.com\/p\/muratalla-presses-wbo-to-order-mandatory\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Promoter Top Rank recently lobbied the WBO to install the Robert Garcia-trained fighter as mandatory<\/a>, and President of the sanctioning body, Gustavo Olivieri, has now confirmed the decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease be advised that the WBO World Championships Committee has unanimously resolved to order the commencement of negotiations between WBO Jr. Welterweight World Champion Shakur Stevenson and WBO #1 World-Rated Contender Raymond Muratalla, in fulfillment of the outstanding mandatory championship obligation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe parties shall have 20 days to reach terms, pursuant to WBO Regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis determination reaffirms our institutional commitment to the consistent enforcement of mandatory championship obligations, competitive fairness, &amp; the integrity of our World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe formal negotiation order notice will be issued shortly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ball is now in Stevenson\u2019s court, with his immediate options being face the undefeated mandatory or vacate the belt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Shakur Stevenson has been ordered to fulfil the first mandatory defence of his WBO super-lightweight world title.
