They tried saying our footage was from years ago.

“So we posted the pictures with the time stamp on them. The health board mess up. Massive data breach.”

St Cadoc’s Hospital is still run by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and has served Newport for more than 120 years.

The site began as Newport Borough Asylum, with its foundation stone laid in May 1903 before it opened in January 1906.

It was renamed Newport County Borough Mental Hospital in 1919 and became St Cadoc’s Hospital in 1946.

The hospital still provides mental health services across Gwent, but parts of its original buildings are no longer used.

The claims have raised questions about access to disused parts of the site and the safeguards protecting sensitive information.

UK data protection law requires organisations to guard personal information against unauthorised access.

A spokesperson for Aneurin Bevan University Health Board said:

“We have been subject to break-ins over the weekend at both St Cadoc’s Hospital and St Woolos Hospital. A number of individuals unlawfully entered secure, locked areas of the sites to create content for social media. During the incident, they forced entry into several areas, including locations where historic patient records are stored. We are working closely with Gwent Police as they investigate this criminal matter.”

“Protecting patient information and maintaining the security of our records is of the utmost importance. All patient records are held in secure areas and we continue to assess against data protection legislation.”

Paperwork found inside the hospital building has raised concerns about the security of potentially sensitive records (Image: Supplied)

“We are extremely disappointed that individuals chose to unlawfully enter secure premises and access areas containing sensitive information. St Cadoc’s and St Woolos Hospitals are functioning hospital sites and we are disappointed that people have entered these premises unlawfully as there are staff and vulnerable patients on site. This is unacceptable. We have also had to put further security measures in place to prevent this happening again. This comes at a cost to the Health Board and represents public funds that would otherwise be available to support patient services, particularly as we remain in a critical incident due to operational pressures.”

“We would like to thank members of the public who have contacted us to raise concerns and bring this matter to our attention. We take any incident involving the security of our sites and information seriously and will continue to work with Gwent Police to support their investigation. We are also in contact with the Information Commissioner’s Office.”

Footage shared by Urban Welsh Explorer shows a crumbling building at St Cadoc’s Hospital in Caerleon, Newport, with…

[43
102,2960,56,54,55
post-815911","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-healthcare","tag-health","tag-healthcare","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
