\n\tBen Wheatley (\u201cNormal\u201d) is taking over directing duties for Paramount Primal<\/a> and Blumhouse Atomic Monster<\/a>\u2018s upcoming movie, \u201cMolepeople<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tRob Savage (\u201cThe Boogeyman, \u201cOther Mommy\u201d), who was set to helm the project, has departed due to scheduling conflicts, with previously announced star LaKeith Stanfield also exiting the film.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMolepeople\u201d was announced earlier this month<\/a> during Blumhouse Atomic Monster\u2019s New York Comic-Con presentation. Nathan Elston wrote the script for the horror movie about a man who descends into the abandoned tunnels beneath New York City, where he discovers a \u201ctwisted society lurking beneath the streets.\u201d The film \u2014 co-financed and co-produced by Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount Primal, with Paramount handling worldwide distribution \u2014 is set for theatrical release on Aug. 27, 2027. <\/p>\n

\n\tProducers include Blumhouse Atomic Monster chief Jason Blum; Paramount Primal heads J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules; and James Harris. Savage will remain on board as an executive producer, alongside Ryan Turek, Tracy Rosenblum and Elston.<\/p>\n

\n\tBritish filmmaker Wheatley has built a reputation for bold, original storytelling. His most recent film, the action thriller \u201cNormal,\u201d starred Bob Odenkirk and was written by \u201cJohn Wick\u201d creator Derek Kolstad. The movie premiered at TIFF\u2019s Midnight Madness program ahead of an April 2026 theatrical release. Wheatley made his feature debut in 2009 with \u201cDown Terrace,\u201d followed by 2011\u2019s \u201cKill List,\u201d which earned six British Independent Film Award nominations, including best director and best screenplay.<\/p>\n

\n\tSince then, Wheatley has built a resume that spans indie films (\u201cHigh-Rise,\u201d starring Tom Hiddleston; \u201cFree Fire,\u201d executive produced by Martin Scorsese; the experimental feature \u201cBulk\u201d) and major studio productions (Warner Bros.\u2019 \u201cMeg 2: The Trench,\u201d starring Jason Statham; Netflix\u2019s \u201cRebecca\u201d).
