BMC says it will make a \u201clong overdue\u201d move into women\u2019s professional road cycling, while announcing a greater presence in professional gravel cycling. It also says it will pull back from its investment in cross-country mountain biking.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Swiss brand says, in a somewhat teasing press release, that professional women\u2019s cycling \u201cis on a march that won\u2019t be stopped or slowed down\u201d. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting, it commands attention and it\u2019s faster than ever before,\u201d BMC says.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But it claims one thing needs \u201curgent ratification\u201d: the lack of BMC bikes in the women\u2019s peloton.\u00a0\u201cIt’s about time we saw BMC bikes in both the Men’s and Women’s Grand Tours,\u201d the press release says.<\/p>\n
BMC says it has taken steps to correct the situation, but it\u2019s not revealing anything else about its move into women\u2019s cycling at this time. We\u2019ll have to wait for an official announcement, which it says will \u201cfollow soon\u201d.<\/p>\n
What BMC does say, however, is that this move into women\u2019s pro cycling means it is closing its BMC Factory Racing cross-country mountain biking<\/a> team. BMC says the team’s athletes and staff have been aware of the closure since spring this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n BMC\u2019s head of sports marketing, Ama\u00ebl Moinard, says running the factory team has been \u201can incredible journey\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have been fortunate to work alongside world-class athletes and trusted partners whose commitment made this success possible,\u201d Moinard says.<\/p>\n \u201cThis strategic shift in focus opens the door to new opportunities and collaborations for 2027, which we look forward to announcing in the coming weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n BMC will continue to sponsor Bike Team Solothurn, a Swiss cross-country mountain bike team.\u00a0<\/p>\n
