{"id":818445,"date":"2026-10-30T07:56:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-30T07:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/818445\/"},"modified":"2026-10-30T07:56:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-30T07:56:09","slug":"uk-weather-hazardous-driving-conditions-as-fog-warning-issued-by-met-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/818445\/","title":{"rendered":"UK weather: hazardous driving conditions as fog warning issued by Met Office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">With no storms on the horizon any time soon, it is likely to be a while before we see the arrival of Chloe, the next name on this year&#8217;s storm list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In the short-term this lack of rainfall will raise concerns about the drought and low water levels in England&#8217;s reservoirs. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Following the latest meeting of the National Drought Group, water companies are being urged to speed up the fixing of leaks and members of the public to take shorter showers and turn off the tap when brushing their teeth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Environment Agency (EA) says that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/government-environment-agency-and-water-companies-step-up-efforts-to-prevent-england-remaining-in-drought-by-next-spring\" class=\"ssrcss-51189d-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">20% more rain than average is needed over the next six months, external<\/a> for the drought to end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Philip Duffy, Chief Executive of the Environment Agency, said: &#8220;The recent rain is welcome, but the drought isn&#8217;t over. A few wet days cannot reverse months of hot, dry weather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Our rivers, reservoirs and groundwater need sustained rainfall to recover, and the effects on nature can last much longer.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">El Ni\u00f1o has been linked to wetter and stormier weather in late autumn and early winter.
