The United Kingdom welcomes the adoption of resolution 2835, renewing UNSMIL\u2019s mandate for 12 months.\u00a0<\/p>\n
We thank Council members for engaging constructively in negotiations.\u202f\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
This mandate will strengthen UNSMIL\u2019s ability to advance a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process.<\/p>\n
It will give SRSG Tetteh a mandate to continue advancing her roadmap.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
This resolution urges Libyan parties to fulfil their commitments made under the \u2018Smaller Convening\u2019 agreement, which will move Libya closer to free, fair, transparent, and inclusive elections within 24 months.<\/p>\n
It builds momentum behind the reunification of Libyan institutions, including its judicial, military and security institutions.<\/p>\n
It provides a clear basis for UNSMIL to support Libyan parties to establish a single executive authority and sends a clear message that Libyan actors should not undermine that work.<\/p>\n
And it recognises the importance of UNSMIL\u2019s work on human rights and the rule of law and encourages UNSMIL to continue to promote the full, equal, meaningful, and safe participation of women in the political process.\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/p>\n
Madam President,\u202f\u202fthe United Kingdom reiterates our full support for UNSMIL and for SRSG Tetteh\u2019s work to advance the political process.<\/p>\n
