Irish duo Lauren Walsh and Leona Maguire both rallied strongly at the Maybank Championship in Malaysia as they climbed the leaderboard during the third round at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

Both Walsh and Maguire had really struggled over the first two rounds but that turned around today as the pair shot their best rounds of the tournament.

Walsh, who started the day at two-over-par after rounds of 75 and 71, was a player transformed as she hit a bogey-free round of 65.

The Dublin golfer took advantage of the benign conditions and hit seven birdies as she shot up the leaderboard, moving from 65th to joint 40th and finishing on five under.

Maguire’s improvement wasn’t as spectacular but she was still able to sign for a round of 68 that left her sitting in 47th on three under par. She hit five birdies and a single bogey as she positioned herself well for further improvements heading into Sunday’s final round.

At the top of the leaderboard, Japan’s Miyu Yamashita leads the way at 18 under par after three rounds.

Chasing back-to-back titles, Yamashita holds a two-shot advantage over China’s Yan Liu and France’s Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, who share second place on 16 under par.

Irish duo Lauren Walsh and Leona Maguire both rallied strongly at the Maybank Championship in Malaysia as they…

[39
5904,101,56,54,55
post-819757","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-golf","tag-golf","tag-sports","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
