{"id":819955,"date":"2026-10-31T17:16:33","date_gmt":"2026-10-31T17:16:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/819955\/"},"modified":"2026-10-31T17:16:33","modified_gmt":"2026-10-31T17:16:33","slug":"sergio-garcia-targets-ryder-cup-return-as-he-confirms-liv-exit-to-rejoin-dp-world-tour-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/819955\/","title":{"rendered":"Sergio Garcia targets Ryder Cup return as he confirms LIV exit to rejoin DP World Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In his statement, Garcia added that &#8220;the most exciting part for me is strengthening personal relationships, both new and old&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Garcia was sanctioned by the DP World Tour for breaking its rules when he defected to LIV, making him ineligible for the 2023 Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The event&#8217;s record points scorer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/golf\/articles\/ce89jelgwp2o\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">had to settle outstanding fines<\/a> &#8211; reported to be more than \u00a31m &#8211; in order to be eligible for the 2025 edition, although ultimately he was not selected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">After helping Europe to six wins from 10 Ryder Cup appearances, he now hopes to return to their camp at Ireland&#8217;s Adare Manor next year as a player or vice-captain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Another goal is to make that Ryder Cup team, and to be an asset to the guys in whatever capacity that may be,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, according to the current tour rules, while Garcia is eligible to play again, he cannot serve as a future captain or vice-captain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Garcia may also face an awkward reunion with the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Just before leaving for LIV in 2022, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/golf\/61360933\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told a rules official at the Wells Fargo Championship:<\/a> &#8220;I can&#8217;t wait to leave this tour.
