\n\tTaika Waititi<\/a> has taken to social media to defend \u201cKlara and the Sun<\/a>,\u201d his latest directorial effort, amid poor reviews and bleak box office numbers, sharing an Instagram post featuring the film\u2019s poster and its Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 78%. (In contrast, the critic score is 28% \u2014 the \u201cJojo Rabbit\u201d director\u2019s lowest yet).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI haven\u2019t read a review of anything aimed at me or my peers in almost 15 years. But I do listen to the people,\u201d Waititi wrote in his caption. \u201cSo this Halloween, let\u2019s spare a thought for those sad lost souls who couldn\u2019t achieve their dreams of becoming artists, and thus became critics. The same people who also hated Jojo Rabbit. Irrelevant. Out of touch. Obsolete. In the bin.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen it debuted in theaters last weekend, \u201cKlara and the Sun\u201d landed at a staggering No. 15 with just $720,000 from 880 locations, and Sony scaled back its theatrical footprint after reviews panned the movie as a \u201ccalamitous<\/a>\u201d and \u201cstrained, whimsical comedy that\u2019s ruinous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJenna Ortega, who stars as the film\u2019s titular android, also recently revealed in a Vogue interview that she doesn\u2019t read reviews<\/a> of her films because \u201cthat would send me into a psychosis of some sort\u201d or check the box office updates when her team sends them her way because \u201cI don\u2019t want it to become a numbers thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBased on Kazuo Ishiguro\u2019s 2021 novel, \u201cKlara and the Sun\u201d takes place in a dystopian future as an obsolete companion android (Ortega) tries to bond with her new owner, a young sick girl named Josie.<\/p>\n
