\n\tMore than a decade later, Green Room<\/a> writer\/director Jeremy Saulnier<\/a> is expressing his gratitude for Patrick Stewart<\/a> helping get the film made.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a screening of the 2015 movie on Friday, one day after Stewart died at age 86<\/a>, Saulnier paid his respects to the late 3x Golden Globe nominee and explained how he \u201csaved the day\u201d when the A24<\/a> film nearly had to shut down.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWho\u2019s sad as fuck we lost Patrick Stewart yesterday? Me,\u201d prefaced Saulnier while introducing the movie. \u201cI came here to shamelessly promote Slayground, but instead, I\u2019m just gonna celebrate Patrick Stewart. He had no business doing this movie. He had plenty of opportunities otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSaulnier recalled how the production was \u201cat the point of no return\u201d with nobody cast as skinhead leader Darcy Banker. \u201cWe\u2019re fucked, and we were close to shutting down,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAnd Patrick Stewart, out of the blue, sort of expressed interest in the project,\u201d said Saulnier. \u201cAnd in a whirlwind about a week later, I was on the phone with him. I left the stage, \u2018Maybe we\u2019re gonna have to break down the sets and shut the whole movie down.\u2019 <\/p>\n

Jeremy Saulnier took a break from editing \u2018SLAYGROUND\u2019 to introduce a 10th anniversary screening of \u2018GREEN ROOM\u2019 at Alamo Drafthouse in LA and pay tribute to Patrick Stewart.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cInstead, this dude came out of nowhere, from way above our sort of zone, and just swooped down, nosedived into our cruddy ass movie and saved us, and said yes. And the movie was instantly greenlit, we moved forward. And I thank him for just taking that leap and making Green Room a thing,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\n\tSaulnier credited Stewart as \u201cthe reason I still can make movies,\u201d calling him a \u201cfucking sweetheart, true gentleman, a kind leader to our whole cast.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe auteur also recalled Stewart telling him one day on set that he \u201cwanted to add a little something to the scene,\u201d which sounded \u201cnightmarish for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was like, \u2018What is it, Patrick?\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018Well, during this one part of the scene, when the camera\u2019s coming through there, I\u2019d like to say, \u201cFuck!\u201d And I was like, \u2018And?\u2019 \u2018Just fuck.\u2019 Permission granted, sir,\u201d Saulnier recounted. \u201cAnd I just knew that he was completely aligned with the film, its aesthetic, its intentions and with me as a filmmaker, and it was just this lovely, lovely thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSaulnier encouraged the audience to \u201cplease celebrate very loudly\u201d when they hear the F-bomb in question. \u201cBut as Patrick would make sure I clarify here, \u2018Whatever you do, don\u2019t root for the Nazis,’\u201d he said, inciting applause from the crowd.<\/p>\n
