\n\tAs Taika Waititi<\/a>\u2018s latest directorial effort gets its time in the sun, he has some choice words for critics attempting to rain on his parade.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Saturday, the Oscar winner boasted about Klara and the Sun<\/a>\u2018s 78% Rotten Tomatoes audience score (now at 73%), while slamming the \u201csad lost souls\u201d who gave the movie a negative review, contributing to its 26% critics rating.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI haven\u2019t read a review of anything aimed at me or my peers in almost 15 years. But I do listen to the people,\u201d he prefaced on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSo this Halloween, let\u2019s spare a thought for those sad lost souls who couldn\u2019t achieve their dreams of becoming artists, and thus became critics. The same people who also hated Jojo Rabbit,\u201d added Waititi. \u201cIrrelevant. Out of touch. Obsolete. In the bin.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn Deadline\u2019s review<\/a>, Damon White wrote of the Sony Pictures adaptation, \u201cTaiki Waititi should be a snug-as-a-bug fit for Kazuo Ishiguro\u2019s dystopian \u2014 or is it? \u2014 2021 novel, given the director\u2019s affinity for a very particular and peculiar kind of reality-based cringe comedy. But Klara just doesn\u2019t deliver on any of the fronts it promises.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMeanwhile, Waititi might have flown too close to the sun with the film\u2019s reported $20M budget, opening last weekend to $701K domestic<\/a>. Following the negative reviews out of BFI this month, Sony cut the film\u2019s wide release to 880 theaters in the US.<\/p>\n

\n\tBased on Kazuo Ishiguro\u2019s 2021 dystopian novel, Klara and the Sun stars Jenna Ortega as the titular android, who is purchased as an \u201cArtificial Friend\u201d for gravely ill teenager Josie (Mia Tharia), whose family is mourning the death of her older sister Sal.<\/p>\n
