\n “We haven’t been told anything by head office yet, just that we will be closing next weekend,” said one worker.\n<\/p>\n
\n However, in September, Citifaith International Church announced it wanted to try and raise \u00a3145,000 to buy the Wetherpoons and expand the church.\n<\/p>\n
\n Citifaith currently owns the floor above the pub and uses it as a place of worship.\n<\/p>\n
\n Both Wetherspoons and Citifaith have now been contacted regarding the upcoming pub closure.\n<\/p>\n

\n Reacting to the news, customers inside the Savoy said they were ‘heartbroken’ and ‘angry’ to see it go.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It’s just a huge shame for the town. I’m angry they’ve let it sell to be honest,” said punter Rob, who will be celebrating his final day in the pub next weekend.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We all love coming here and necking some pints, it’s just a good meeting point and it’s such a big part of Swindon.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I know we’ve got the other Wetherspoons down the other end but it’s not the same. This one’s got a better atmosphere and less trouble I’d say. I don’t want it to go. It’s heartbreaking really.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Catherine and Ben, who were enjoying a pizza at The Savoy on Sunday, November 1, added: “It does feel like the end of an era really.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The Savoy’s always been a good cheap option in town for food or drink and it’s close to the theatre so we’ve used it a few times for pre-drinks before going to see a show.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It has got a long history in Swindon though so I’m interested to see what it gets turned into next.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I just hope it’s something beneficial to the town.
