Dallaglio urges England to make shock call-up ahead of Australia clash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>England legend Lawrence Dallaglio has urged Steve Borthwick to make a surprise addition to his coaching setup ahead of next Sunday&#8217;s clash with Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The 2003 World Cup winner believes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ruck.co.uk\/england-rugby-news\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">England<\/a> need outside help to solve a problem that has plagued them throughout 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Borthwick&#8217;s side have conceded 98 penalties in just eight Tests this year.<\/p>\n<p>They have also received 14 yellow cards and one red.<\/p>\n<p>And Dallaglio believes former World Cup final referee Wayne Barnes could be the man to turn things around.<\/p>\n<p>Dallaglio wants England to break the bank<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/sport\/rugby-union\/article\/england-steve-borthwick-discipline-lawrence-dallaglio-qkskgxtq8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Writing in The Sunday Times<\/a>, Dallaglio urged the RFU to recruit Barnes, who retired from refereeing after the 2023 Rugby World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;England really ought to break the bank to get in Wayne Barnes, who was for a long time the best referee in the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>South Africa already have former referee Jaco Peyper working alongside Rassie Erasmus.<\/p>\n<p>Wales have also appointed Ben Whitehouse to Steve Tandy&#8217;s coaching team.<\/p>\n<p>Dallaglio believes England should follow their lead.<\/p>\n<p>He warned that England cannot keep giving away penalties and yellow cards if they want to compete with the world&#8217;s best.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" alt=\"\"\/>Borthwick admits England\u00a0must change<\/p>\n<p>Borthwick has also admitted England are struggling to adapt to international refereeing.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nationschampionshiprugby.com\/en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nations Championship<\/a>, he said: &#8220;The best players are smart and the best players adjust.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He added: &#8220;What we&#8217;ve got to be is the quickest to adjust.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>England conceded 15 penalties and received four yellow cards during July&#8217;s narrow
