Jamie Redknapp has given his thoughts on Manchester United<\/a> potentially appointing Unai Emery to replace Michael Carrick.<\/p>\n

Carrick <\/a>is surely running out of time at Man Utd, who are now nine games without a victory in all competitions.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the Red Devils<\/a> slipped to a 2-0 loss to Chelsea with ten men, and they are now 17th in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Despite this, talkSPORT are reporting<\/a> that Man Utd have made an \u2018immediate decision\u2019 on Carrick\u2019s future after the loss to Chelsea, with the head coach \u2018expected to be in the dugout\u2019 for Tuesday\u2019s Champions League match against AS Roma.<\/p>\n

The report explains:<\/p>\n

\u2018The Red Devils are highly unlikely to make a head coach change until the upcoming international break at the earliest, even though the hierarchy held summit talks.<\/p>\n

\u2018Senior boardroom figures are still hoping Carrick can turn around the club\u2019s worst start to a season since the 1986\/87 campaign.\u2019<\/p>\n

Despite this, Man Utd are linked with several potential replacements, and Redknapp thinks Aston Villa boss Emery is one of two potential successors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are only, I think, two runners,\u201d Redknapp told Sky Sports about who could replace Carrick at Man Utd.<\/p>\n

\u201cListen, Michael Carrick is still in the job so it\u2019s unfair to be saying it.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut if that\u2019s the case, if this doesn\u2019t improve, it\u2019s inevitable that he\u2019s going to lose his job.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can only be him [Emery] really and Eddie Howe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Redknapp went on to favour Emery over Howe and has explained why he might accept the job.<\/p>\n

\u201cJulian Nagelsmann has done pretty well in Germany. I think he started off his career so good\u2026 last few years, not quite so good, obviously with Germany at the World Cup,\u201d Redknapp continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can only really see him [Emery]. It depends, does he want to leave Aston Villa? He\u2019s got a project, he can do what he likes there, he\u2019s running the club, whatever he says goes.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut he might think, \u2018This is the challenge for me\u2019, and every manager has an ego. Everyone will believe that they can turn Manchester United around, they will genuinely believe that.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith his abilities, he would probably be the only one that I would trust to be able to do it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t believe anyone else is just going to go in there with a manager and an assistant and change it. There are so many things behind the scenes that need to change.\u201d<\/p>\n
