A fitness coach<\/a> has told how a \u2018tooth infection\u2019 helped him discover a silent cancer<\/a> that was lurking in his body.<\/p>\n Jamie Haxton, 29, from Glasgow <\/a>was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma after he discovered a lump that wouldn\u2019t go away for weeks.<\/p>\n The small lump underneath his jaw formed after a tooth infection sparked an unusual reaction in his lymph nodes<\/a> in October 2024.<\/p>\n His dentist and GP both tried to treat the lump with rounds of antibiotics weeks after his tooth infection <\/a>had cleared up.<\/p>\n But with the lump<\/a> still in place his GP sent Jamie to Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialists who carried out a biopsy.<\/p>\n After surgery to remove the lump, Jamie was told just days before Christmas last year he had cancer.<\/a><\/p>\n The online fitness coach<\/a> told the Record: \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t for a tooth infection I would never have known I had cancer.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was caught just in time. Had it gone unnoticed any longer I could have been in real trouble.<\/p>\n \u201cI was treated with antibiotics and the infection cleared up. But there was this small lump left behind. It was barely noticeable. I was going about daily life with it but I always had a feeling something wasn\u2019t right.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter the third course of antibiotics my GP was concerned it wasn\u2019t shifting it. He referred me to ENT.<\/p>\n \u201cIt took five weeks until I was seen by ENT. Even when they said I had to get it surgically removed I still thought it was nothing.<\/p>\n \u201cI was told I had cancer just a week before Christmas. It was only five months after I got married so telling my wife was so tough.<\/p>\n “I Facetimed her after receiving the news. It was a massive shock to her. It was really emotional.”<\/p>\n Jamie was diagnosed with stage 3 Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkin Lymphoma. It is just sitting there and I live with it.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a rare sub-type of lymphoma. It is really slow progressing. It could take years before I suffer any symptoms.<\/p>\n “Thankfully, nothing has changed in my life. I’ve been able to just get on with it. Sometimes I think I just want this out of my body. But I know things could be worse.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m symptomless at the moment. But if I start to show symptoms that\u2019s when they\u2019ll look to treat it.<\/p>\n \u201cThey just didn\u2019t want me to start chemotherapy. It wouldn\u2019t be worth the side effects.<\/p>\n \u201cThe doctors have said my fitness is really helping keep this at bay. I’m really glad I’ve looked after myself.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve still been able to keep working. When I first got diagnosed I told all my clients. They have been brilliant and really understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n Jamie is taking on a 10k for the Beatson Cancer charity this Sunday through Glasgow<\/a> after another family member bravely fought and beat cancer.<\/p>\n Jamie said: \u201cThe Beatson have been brilliant with us. When I ever do need treatment that\u2019s where I\u2019ll be going for it.<\/p>\n \u201cMy wife’s aunt, Jill, was diagnosed with rare cancer at the same time last year.
